NME post for Meer

By Press Gazette

Malik Meer has been appointed features editor of NME. He succeeds Alex Needham, who was recently promoted to deputy editor, writes Ruth Addicott.

Meer, pictured right, was editor of dance music title Muzik – also published by IPC – until its closure in June.

Since then he has been involved in Project Tyson, Emap’s new men’s weekly, known by insiders as Zoo Weekly, as well as working within IPC’s special projects.

Prior to editing Muzik, Meer was commissioning features editor on Ministry and acting news editor on rival Mixmag.

He has also worked for The Face, Arena, Channel 4 and Radio 1.

Meer said he would write as well as commission features for NME. “It’s the best music magazine so it was an easy decision,” he added.

NME editor Conor McNicholas said Meer was a passionate writer and editor — “perfect for the NME line-up”.
