Former Daily Record picture editor Stuart Nicol has been given the
newly created job of Press Association group picture editor in charge
of a team of 39 photographers.
The appointment follows PA’s
decision to combine “photo gathering operations” of PA and two agencies
that it has bought: Empics and All Action Digital.
One of Nicol’s
main roles will be to oversee the rollout of ShootLive, a technology
developed by Empics that delivers “real time” photography for the
internet and newspaper picture desks.
Nicol began his career at
the Evening Standard when he was 20 and went on to work at The Sunday
Times, The Sunday Telegraph and the Daily Mirror.
He has also worked as a consultant at The Times, overseeing the move to colour printing.
