News Shopper re-vamps for its 40th birthday celebrations

By Press Gazette

Free weekly newspaper series The News Shopper has created a completely new look to coincide with its 40th anniversary next year.

The 12 London titles have scrapped the red-top image for a cleaner and more modern look. They have a new masthead and each page has been redesigned with clear sections. White on black headlines have been taken out for a lighter feel and there is more white space.

Cartoons and graphics have been replaced with more background and information about local stories, and there will be more news features.

The paper was launched in 1965 as an eight-page title and now has editions with nearly 200-pages, stretching from Greenwich to Gravesend.

Group managing editor Andrew Parkes said: “Everything has changed from top to bottom and it’s been a real challenge. We haven’t changed for many years and we realised that we couldn’t rest on our laurels. After 40 fantastic years we felt the region’s award-winning newspaper deserved a new look for a whole new era.”

The paper will be celebrating with events including a staff reunion and special editions.
