The BBC has announced Paddy O'Connell as the new presenter of Broadcasting House, Radio 4's Sunday morning news programme.
O'Connell – who was one of the presenters who covered for current presenter Fi Glover while she was on maternity leave – will host his first programme in his new role on Sunday 3 September on Radio 4, at 9.00am.
Glover was recently announced as the presenter of a new programme in Radio 4's Saturday morning slot, Saturday Live.
O'Connel said: "I'm amazed to get BH. It's made for people who love radio, by a team which cares completely.
If you read the thousands of emails from listeners on a Sunday morning, they tell us time and again to take a risk, to be bold and to be warm. So I'm going to take my cue from them."
Broadcasting House editor Peter Rippon, said: "Paddy's appointment is brilliant news. He has a rare gift as a presenter and he appeals to listeners across the range.
"His inquisitiveness and sense of mischief is ideally matched to BH. He is the ideal voice for Radio 4 on Sunday mornings."
O'Connell was the Wall Street anchor for the BBC and presented the News coverage on the evening of 11 September from New York, covering the aftermath until leaving New York in 2003.
He first worked on local radio stations for five years, was hired for the launch team of Radio Five Live, and then the launch of The World from WGBH in Boston and the BBC World Service.
