New look for ethical magazine

By Press Gazette

Monthly ethical magazine New Consumer has been given a new look and swapped to a free distribution model in order to compete with the mainstream media’s increasing awareness of ethical issues.

The magazine, which launched five years ago, has previously been sold in independent newsagents and shops such as Neil’s Yard Remedies and has a circulation of 30,000.

Following a redesign and change of format from A5 to A4, the title will be available for free in selected outlets, although now no longer available in Borders and Waterstone’s. Its website has also been redesigned.

In line with its core ethical message, the magazine would not ‘blanket distribute”, editor Clare Harris said.

‘Our readership is very switched on and any wastage would be highlighted to us by them,’she added.

‘Now that ethical living has gone mainstream it’s time for us to meet that demand with the integrity that we have from being around as long as we have.”
