Elisabeth Falkingham has been made editor of Farmers Guardian, writes Sarah Boden. She is believed to be the first woman to edit a national agricultural title.
Falkingham is currently features editor of the Prestonbased title and will take up her new duties immediately.
“I am really proud to be taking over this historic newspaper at a time when it has such ambitious plans for the future,” she said.
Falkingham joined Farmers Guardian eight years ago as a reporter and features writer. She was promoted to features editor in 1998 and has been responsible for supplements, commercial features, news analysis and “farm focus” coverage.
She replaces Allan Prosser, who has been acting editor for the past 14 months, after its previous longserving editor, Mike Finch, suffered a heart attack.
Prosser has been seconded to CMPi’s Printing World magazine as publisher.
CMPi agricultural publishing director Peter Walker said: “We think Liz will do an excellent job for us, representing, as she does, both the new face of farming in this country and someone with a deep understanding of its traditions and practices.”
