New bid to solve Bradford dispute

By Press Gazette

Proposals aimed at ending the pay dispute at Newsquest Bradford are expected to be put to a chapel meeting on Monday.

The new proposals follow meetings between NUJ general secretary Jeremy Dear, his deputy John Fray, Bradford Newsquest managing director David Coates and group editor Perry Austin-Clarke. It is understood that a two-year pay deal may be on offer.

The NUJ chapel at Bradford has been joined by the Newsquest Bolton chapel which was this week continuing an “open-ended” pay strike. The union says more than 60 members are supporting the Bolton action.

At Newsquest’s News Shopper series, which has 12 titles in south-east London and north Kent, the 22-strong NUJ chapel is balloting on industrial action in support of a pay claim. The journalists are seeking a rise of 2.5 per cent plus £1,750 to help cover the costs of living in the London area.
