Matthew Line, the award-winning former editor of IPC’s Homes & Gardens magazine, has joined The National Magazine Company to spearhead a launch.
Line left Homes & Gardens two years ago to become chief executive of The Prince’s Foundation, where he has been involved in urban design and architecture. “I came to the end of my contract and Duncan [Edwards] asked me if I would be interested in working on a project here,” he said. “They have been working on ideas for about three years and this is something that has come to the top of the pile. I think it has got great potential.”
Line’s expertise is at the upmarket end of the home interest sector, prompting speculation that Nat Mags could be about to launch another homes title. Nat Mags already publishes Good Housekeeping and House Beautiful, having closed Your Home last year due to sliding sales.
Prior to Homes & Gardens, Line headed the home interest division at Redwood Publishing, where he launched a number of customer titles for clients such as Abbey and Dulux.
Nat Mags managing director Duncan Edwards said he was “delighted” by Line’s appointment. “As I have said in the past, we are currently working on a number of new magazine concepts and Matthew is the perfect person to head up the development team on one of our most promising ideas.
“Matthew is a great talent and has an uncanny knack of knowing what is right in a visual sense for today’s consumer,” he added.
Line will be working on a separate launch to the forthcoming women’s title known as ‘Reveal’. Edited by Sarah Edwards with former Hello! editor Maria Trkulja as deputy editor, it is widely expected to be a celebritybased weekly.
