The Daily Mirror has been criticised by the Press Complaints Commission for intruding into the privacy of author JK Rowling.
The
creator of boy wizard Harry Potter complained over an article that
contained a picture of her London home along with the name of its road.
She claimed the story identified the exact location and said she had previously been subject to security threats.
The
commission upheld the complaint because it said Rowling had “gained her
fair share of stalkers and obsessive fans” and because the information
was not sufficiently in the public domain.
The PCC rejected a
further privacy complaint brought because the Mirror named the suburb
of her Edinburgh home, the county where she has another house and
information about security guards and CCTV.
The PCC said the information was either sufficiently general or already in the public domain.
