Two journalists have been sacked from Trinity Mirror’s national titles after a newsdesk spying row.

David Brown from The People and Paul Gallagher from the Daily Mirror suspended two weeks ago after claims that stories from the Mirror’s newslist were being sold before publication to The People.

They were both given their marching orders on Wednesday night.

A spokesman for Mirror Group Newspapers said: “Following an internal investigation two reporters – from the Daily Mirror and The People — have been dismissed for gross misconduct."

Gallagher won the diversity prize in the 2004 Guardian Student Media Awards and joined the Mirror as a graduate trainee. Brown is an experienced People reporter who also worked on the newsdesk.
