Member of the Board – IMPRESS The Independent Monitor for the Press

IMPRESS was developed by a team of journalists, free speech campaigners, academics, lawyers and others who believe passionately in press freedom anddecent standards of journalism and news publishing.

The IMPRESS Appointment Panel now seeks an additional Board Member of the new regulator which is known as IMPRESS: The Independent Monitor for the Press. The Board includes a substantial majority of members who are demonstrably independent of the press; a sufficient number of people with experience of the press; and no one who is a serving national politician. All members of the Board must be individuals able, demonstrably, to act fairly and impartially in the decision-making of the Board. A monthly fee and expenses will be paid.

BOARD MEMBER
As a candidate for Member of the IMPRESS Board, you will be able to demonstrate commitment to the ethos, purpose and role of IMPRESS and experience of working at a senior level in a public or professional capacity. You will be capable of acting with fairness, independence and integrity and of contributing to well-balanced decision-making. You will be able to bring to the Board your insight, knowledge, skills and experienceof journalism or news publishing and an interest in regulation. Time commitment: 4 days per month.

Serving on the IMPRESS Board will be an opportunity to establish the first system of independent press regulation which, through its origins, structure and membership, will both protect the freedom and independence of the press and uphold the rights of the public.
