ITN was forced to deny on Wednesday that long-term ITV News anchor Sir Trevor McDonald will be leaving the channel within the year.
In a statement, ITN said the news presenter was “currently in negotiations with ITN and ITV” over his next ITV News contract.
ITN would not confirm when his current contract expires, but it is understood to be sometime this year.
“Discussions are going well and are at an advanced stage, but are not yet completed.
“The length of the contract is part of the negotiations, but it is not true that Trevor will be leaving within a year.
“His contract will run beyond 2005.”
