By Press Gazette

Scottish journalist Martin Rayner, who switched careers to become a sculptor, has died aged 57.

Rayner worked on newspapers in Haddington, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and New Zealand before graduating from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee.

Rayner’s subsequent career as a sculptor won him international awards and his work is held in private and public collections throughout the world.

He was a visiting lecturer during the Nineties to art colleges in Edinburgh, Cork, Dundee, Leith, Aberdeen and Liverpool.

He exhibited widely, both in one man and group exhibitions, across the UK and abroad, including the US, Sweden and Germany.

Rayner also studied for a postgraduate degree in social work at Dundee University to enable him to become involved in work in art therapy.
