Mansfield: writer of the year
Paul Mansfield scooped two awards at the British Guild of Travel Writers’ 2004 Members Awards.
Mansfield, who contributes to the Daily Telegraph, Sunday Telegraph, The Times, Evening Standard and Daily Express, won the new AA/BGTW Travel Writer of the Year Award.
This is for a major contribution to consumer travel writing, based on a body of work.
The judges said: “We were entertained – and informed – by this writer’s authoritative and well researched new take on old favourites that have dropped below the travel horizon.”
The runner-up was Geoff Hill of The Newsletter , Belfast.
Mansfield also won the award for the Best UK Feature over 850 words for an article on Bournemouth in the Sunday Telegraph.

Best Overseas Feature over 850 words – Stephanie Debere, Independent on Sunday
Best Trade Feature – Sue Bryant, Business Traveller ` Kenneth Westcott Jones Memorial Award for
Best Transport Feature – The Times
The Ed Lacy Memorial Award for Best Radio Feature – Mary Johns, Soweto, BBC Hereford & Worcester
Best Television Feature of the Year – Petra Shepherd, Travel Channel.
