Major revamp for 300th Gay Times

By Press Gazette

Gay Times has unveiled a revamp this month to celebrate its 300th issue.

The title has also announced plans to raise the cover price by 15p to £3.10 from the October issue.

The increase is ahead of further changes in content in December when the magazine will introduce a 20-page lifestyle section and add articles on grooming, food, finance and a column by wine expert Nick Tarayan.

Led by designer Mark King, the new-look September issue has dropped its listings section but includes 18 pages of extra editorial and photographs from the archives going back to 1984 – the year the title was launched.

It also features an exclusive cover by flamboyant French photographers Pierre et Gilles, a piece by Russel T Davis, writer of the TV series Queer as Folk, and reviews by Jake Arnott and gay activist Peter Tatchell.

A new page dedicated to fallen celebrities, called “Where are they Now?”, has been added, along with a section GT Social, which highlights unusual groups such as the Kilt Appreciation Society and the Gay Lycra Lovers.

“The whole thing has been lightened up – and that’s what Gay Times needed,” said editor Vicky Powell.
