Sandra Loy, 32, has been appointed senior assistant editor of the South Wales Echo, succeeding Mark Waldron as the paper’s number two following Mark’s move to the Swindon Advertiser to be its editor.
Loy began her career at the Herald Express in Torquay in 1990 and moved to the South Wales Echo in 1997. She has worked as a reporter, in features, on the newsdesk and on the design desk.
Margaret O’Reilly, 42, has been appointed assistant editor. She joined the Echo as a trainee in 1981 and was the paper’s education correspondent for 13 years.
Throughout her time at the paper she has been everything from garden columnist to business editor, for which she won an award from the National Federation of Small Businesses.
Nick Machin, 35, has succeeded Margaret as assistant to the editor and has become the paper’s readers’ champion. He started his career on the Skegness Standard in 1989, became editor of the weekly Louth Standard in 1994 and joined the Echo in 1999 and spent the last three years as head of content.
