Liverpool Daily Post editor Jane Wolstenholme is leaving the paper after four years in the post, to help run her husband's PR company and embark on a book-writing career.
Her husband Jon Brown, who has previously been acting editor at the Post's sister title the Echo, left the Liverpool Post and Echo in May this year as head of multimedia for the north west, to set up the PR company.
Wolstenholme, 32, has also secured a deal for two novels with Simon and Schuster. She said: "I have had four very enjoyable, challenging and rewarding years as editor and feel very privileged to have worked with some of the most talented people in the regional press.
"I will be sad to leave, but have no doubt that the title will go from strength to strength."
During her editorship Wolstenholme took the Post through a major relaunch, and the paper was named Northwest newspaper of the year.
Before she leaves the paper early next year, Wolstenholme hopes to boost readership by sending 6,000 copies of the paper to targeted businesses and to readers via street vendors, while strengthening editorial and the commercial operation.
Part of the plan includes the launch of a new weekly supplement called Style City to celebrate the growth of Liverpool's city centre.
Wolstenholme said: "These changes will ensure the Liverpool Daily Post enters 2007 in the very best shape for my successor to build upon."
Managing director of Trinity Mirror North West and North Wales, Sara Wilde, said: "Jane has been a superb editor of the Liverpool Daily Post and we are very sad to see her go.
"However, we wish her all the very best and are delighted she is staying on to deliver the first stage of the exciting development plans we have for the paper."
Wolstenholme started as a graduate trainee at the Liverpool Echo 10 years ago.
She has spent all her career with Trinity Mirror, apart from a stint on the Daily Mail.
