The Media Society

Celebrities can sell everything nowadays. The Media Society is hosting a debate on whether the media might kill the goose that lays the golden circulation figures. Chaired by Carole Stone, author of Networking, the Art of Making Friends, the panel includes Edwina Currie, Heat editor Mark Frith, Roy Greenslade, Cosmo Landesman and News of the World associate editor Phil Taylor. Tickets cost £12 for Media Society members and £14 for non-members.

Bridgestone Digital Reporter

Aspiring motor sport journalists aged 18 to 30 can win the opportunity to cover a Formula One race . Three finalists will also attend a press event in Mugello, Italy, to provide interviews and reports for tyre manufacturer Bridgestone Europe’s website and will visit Ferrari’s headquarters. The Martha Gellhorn prize for journalism

Entries are invited for the fourth annual journalism prize in honour of Martha Gellhorn. The subject matter can focus on the UK or abroad but must be a human story that cuts through the established version of events and brings to the fore an issue that has been buried by current news agendas. A maximum of three articles from 31 January 2002 to January 2003 can be submitted and entrants must include six copies of each piece. The winner receives £5,000. Previous journalists who have won the prize are Jeremy Harding, Geoffrey Lean and Nick Davies.
