Veteran Getty Images photographer Terry Fincher is showcasing work from his 50-year career in the exhibition Tempus Fugit at the Getty Images Gallery in London next month.
Fincher began his career as a messenger boy for Keystone in 1945, and has spent much of his working life covering major conflicts in countries such as India, Pakistan and the then-Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe.
Louise Garczewska, director of the Getty Images Gallery, said: ‘We are really thrilled to showcase Terry’s incredible work. Having enjoyed a colourful career which has seen him cover major historical events and personalities, this exhibition provides us with a rare opportunity to exhibit a number of breathtaking images under one roof.”
Fincher secured one of his major scoops, an image of train robber Charlie Wilson entitled Handcuffed, thanks to childhood connections with Wilson, whom Fincher had grown up with in south London. Fincher secured a seat on Wilson’s flight from Montreal, resulting in a front-page scoop (below).
The exhibition, Terry Fincher’s Tempus Fugit, runs from 29 February to 5 April 2008. The Getty Images Gallery is at 46 Eastcastle Street, London W1 and is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 6.30pm and on Saturdays from noon to 6pm.
