Rod Liddle, the former editor of Radio 4’s Today programme, begins presenting his new Saturday morning politics show on BBC Two this week.
Liddle will front Weekend, an hour-long programme, with Five’s The Wright Stuff presenter Kate Silverton, beginning a six-week run on Saturday. The programme, on at 9am, plans to take an irreverent and humorous look at politics and power, by focusing on the people and events that made an impact in that week.
Its inaugural guests include Zimbabwe cricketer Henry Olonga, Conservative London mayoral candidate Steven Norris and Mark Ellen, editor of music magazine Word.
The show will examine a number of topical items each week through discussion, comment and video shorts.
“The programme will uncover and analyse the politics and personalities that have influenced our lives and our world with sharp insight and good humour,” a BBC spokesman said.
“Viewers will gain informed analysis of the wide powers at play in our lives – political, corporate, media, policy, environmental – often funny, often passionate, often unashamedly polarised, sometimes celebratory, but always informed.”
Weekend, featuring a roster of guest contributors, will be prerecorded in front of a 100-strong studio audience on Friday evenings.
