Key 103 wins news award from CRCA

By Press Gazette

Manchester’s Key 103 fm has won the 2005 Commercial Radio Companies Association news award.

The CRCA awards reward excellence in all aspects of commercial radio, from production to presenting.

Joanne
Taylor, one of Key 103’s journalists at the awards ceremony last week,
said: “We’ve run a number of news campaigns throughout the year and
tried hard to produce them imaginatively, with a difference from other
campaigns.

“We won a bronze award at the Sonys but it’s brilliant to be crowned the best news station out of so many at the CRCAs.”

The
news team from Beacon 97.2 fm won the feature of the year award. After
six months of research, they produced “Caught in the Crossfire”, an
investigation into gun crime in the West Midlands following the
Birmingham shooting that killed two girls on New Year’s Day 2003.

Independent
Radio News, which provides news to commercial radio stations across the
UK, won the technological innovation award for developing new software
that delivers the entire IRN product to stations via the internet.

The
CRCA special award went to UKRadioAid in recognition of the outstanding
contribution made by all commercial radio stations in raising money for
the tsunami appeal.
