ITV opens news centre

By Press Gazette

ITV is marking 50 years at parliament by opening a new political centre at Millbank Studios in London.

The
new centre will bring all ITV regional correspondents together in one
newsroom for the first time. Its creation is part of a wider
redevelopment programme following the ITV merger in 2004 which has seen
four regional news centres being overhauled with a further four planned.

Newsrooms
at Meridian, Central in Birmingham, Central in Nottingham, and
Manchester have been redeveloped and work is planned to go ahead in
York, Leeds, Tyne Tees, and AngliaChief executive of ITV Charles Allen
said: “We’re laying the groundwork for the future while maintaining our
high standards and strong tradition of political journalism. This news
centre is a major part of our determination to put news at the centre
of ITV’s public service broadcasting commitment.”

ITV News Group
chief executive Clive Jones said that for the first time in 50 years
the formation of ITV plc enabled the coming together of all the
company’s regional and national news gathering teams under one
leadership with the aim of making political news engaging, accessible
and relevant.
