The decision to publish the "last photo" of Diana, Princess of Wales, in a magazine has been defended by its editor.
According to PA, Umbert Brindani – editor of the weekly magazine Chi – believes the picture was “tender” and “touching” but not offensive.
The picture shows Diana being given oxygen after the Mercedes she was driving in crashed in a Paris underpass in August 1997.
PA reported that when Brindani was asked whether Diana sons William and Harry would find the photograph offensive, he said: "On the contrary I think they are the two people above all who want to know the truth."
He added: "She is not dead in the picture but looks as if she is a sleeping Princess.”
The magazine also published autopsy drawings which claimed to detail Diana’s injuries.
The pictures have also appeared in Italian daily newspaper Corriere della Sera.
