By Press Gazette

By Des Cryan in Dublin

The launch of a new edition of the Daily Mail for Ireland, scheduled
for early next year, will be led by the team that has made Ireland on
Sunday such a success.

Editor-in-chief Ted Verity and editor Paul Drury will also edit the
daily, while new recruit Lisa O’Carroll, formerly head of MediaGuardian
online, will run the newsdesk. O’Carroll is currently running the
newsdesk of IoS.

The new paper is aiming to recruit some 20
editorial staff. An insider said they were looking for “good Irish
people, no matter whether they are young, old or middle-aged”.

Meanwhile,
the editor of the Irish edition of The Sunday Times, Fiona McHugh, is
to step down. Editor for the past five years, is understood to have
plans for a food business.
