IPC launches DVD title

By Press Gazette

By Alyson Fixter

Uncut editor Allan Jones has launched a spin-off title – Uncut DVD –
devoted to a pantheon of movie heroes ranging from Clint Eastwood to
Robert de Niro.

The magazine aims to ape the success of Uncut, IPC’s heavyweight
music title which focuses on classic rock stars such as Dylan, Bowie
and Van Morrison and celebrates rock legends and back catalogues as
well as new releases.

The publisher claims that it will be free
from the constraints felt by film titles Empire and Total Film, which
are focused on new blockbusters, and will have superior design and
editorial values to existing DVD-focused magazines, which he claims are
aimed at techno geeks rather than film fans.

The magazine will be quarterly atfirst, with the aim of going monthly if it is successful.

Jones said: “We’ve never had room in our magazine for all the great movie stories we wanted to tell.

“Uncut
DVD is the perfect solution, providing the proper space for us to give
the full Uncut treatment to the greatest stars, most talented directors
and wildest behind-the-scenes stories in celluloid history.”

The
debut issue features a retrospective of cover star Clint Eastwood –
delivering “the good, the bad and the ugly on Hollywood’s greatest
contemporary icon”.

Elsewhere, there are features on the making
of Sam Peckinpah and Steve McQueen’s The Getaway, the story of the ’80s
Brat Pack and the history of top ’70s cop show The Sweeney.
