IPC has agreed to pay 15 former Melody Maker journalists after they protested that the company had reproduced their work in the NME Originals spin-off series without their permission.
The journalists joined forces in July and were said to be furious that IPC had republished their work without notifying them first.
Some only discovered their work was back in print when they happened to pick up a copy of one of the magazines at the news-stand.
The monthly series contains exclusive material from the NME and Melody Maker archives, which hold more than 70 years worth of editorial including the Sixties, Punk and Britpop eras.
Independent on Sunday and Time Out freelance Andrew Mueller said: “We had a meeting where we explained our position and they explained theirs and we agreed an amount that everybody seems happy with, which is more than they wanted to pay us but less than we originally asked for.
“In fairness to IPC, when we did pull them up on it, they were entirely co-operative and were keen to discuss what would be the best way forward if they wanted to use our stuff in future.
“Basically, they have accepted the fact that people would prefer it if they were asked up front.”
IPC declined to comment.
