Indie’s Astley piece hits sour note with MEN

By Press Gazette

The Independent’s Life and Culture supplement this week boasted the
first interview with Rick Astley in a decade, despite the Manchester
Evening News publishing a similar profile last year.

MEN feature writer Paul Taylor said he had covered the same ground with the 80s pop singer in August 2004.

Taylor
said: “I know the accepted wisdom is that dog does not eat dog, but I
think I am entitled to at least nibble at The Independent’s ankles over
its claim.

“I wouldn’t normally complain, but The Independent’s
claim that Astley was breaking a decade-long silence was made not only
in the text and the standfirst of the feature, but even in a front-page
blurb.”
