Hurd heads over to Africa for Sky

By Press Gazette

Sky News has appointed Emma Hurd as its Africa correspondent, replacing David Charter who resigned from the post earlier this month.

Hurd joined Sky from the BBC in 1996. In October 2000 she moved to Washington as one of Sky News's US correspondents where she led the New York coverage of 9/11 before being transferred to Pakistan to report on the US military action in Afghanistan.

In 2001 she received the Gold Medal at the New York Film and Television Festival for her exclusive report on Israeli soldiers based in the (then) occupied zone in Southern Lebanon.

Hurd said: "I am thrilled to be heading up Sky's Africa operation. It is a fascinating continent that deserves much more of the world's attention.

"I'm looking forward to bringing more of the important stories from Africa to our viewers."
