Honours for BBC2’s Moir and Sky’s Friend

By Press Gazette

Jim Moir, the outgoing controller of BBC Radio 2 credited with its transformation from a middle-of-the-road station to Britain’s most popular radio channel, receives a CBE.

Moir, who is already a Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order, received his CBE for services to broadcasting.

Moir said of his honour: “I’m very touched and my thoughts turn to all the colleagues with whom I collaborated over so many years – who all share in this honour.”

Also at the BBC, OBEs go to Jonathan Gili, producer of Timewatch and other history programmes, Rome correspondent David Willey and wine expert, writer and broadcaster Jancis Robinson.

Sky News presenter Bob Friend receives an OBE as does Sonita Alleyne, radio producer and co-founder and director of independent production company Somethin’ Else.

Regulators also receive honours. Sarah Thane, director of programmes and advertising at the Independent Television Commission, is appointed CBE and Linda Paice, complaints co-ordinator at the Broadcasting Standards Commission, is made MBE.

Emma Mandley, former director of regional affairs at London Weekend Television, is also appointed MBE while former BBC News anchor and World Service chief John Tusa receives a knighthood.
