BBC History magazine has been revamped in an attempt to build on its recent ABC success.
The UK’s best-selling history title is undergoing its first redesign since it launched in 2000. Editor Greg Neale said: “It’s more a radical evolution rather than a revolution.”
Changes include an expanded news and listings coverage as well as new features and increased space in the pass notes section. Design consultant Laura Hall was given a brief to work on the “modern classic” design to make it more accessible. She has used a new headline font, Interface.
Neale said: “We decided to enhance the magazine visually to boost our appeal to existing readers and to attract new readers.”
The magazine, which recently posted its highest ABC of 53,154, has timed the redesign to coincide with its annual “Book of the year” supplement for history students starting the academic year.
The title has also produced three supplements for The Independent, to be published on consecutive Saturdays from 27 September.
