Hibbard to head Metal Hammer

By Press Gazette

Rock music magazine Metal Hammer has appointed news editor Jamie Hibbard to be its new editor.

He takes over from former editor Chris Ingham, who moved up to become assistant publisher of Future’s London-based music magazines.

Hibbard began his career as a journalist on another Future owned title, Mountain Biking UK, where he remained for five years as editorial assistant and staff writer.

Since joining Metal Hammer he has held a number of positions including writer, reviews editor and news editor.

Hibbard said he had plans to make some changes to the editorial content and design but stressed that the magazine would continue to cover the heaviest and most extreme bands.

“Before, Metal Hammer was kind of like an older brother. I want to make it more like your mate,” he said.

Metal Hammer underwent a relaunch in February 2003 in a bid to distance itself from the more junior pop titles in the market. At the time it was re-positioned with a new strapline: “Everything louder than everything else”.

Meanwhile, freelance writer Tommy Udo has joined the Metal Hammer team as news editor, in place of Hibbard, and Katie Parsons has come on board as staff writer following a year’s internship.
