The Herald has won top honours at the Silver Anniversary of the Scottish Press Awards. As well as being crowned Scottish Newspaper of the Year, the paper won three other awards.
Editor Mark Douglas-Home was delighted at his paper’s success. He said: “This year has been a particularly good year for awards for The Herald. I am delighted for all the journalists at the paper who have all worked extremely hard to produce such a successful paper.”
The Scotsman also picked up four awards at the event, run by The Scottish Daily Newspaper Society, including Reporter of the Year, won by Gethin Chamberlain.
The judges commented on his work: “His reports from the front line graphically detailed the advance on Basra and his description of the taking of the city displayed his superb reporting skills.”
The winner of the Front Page of the Year category was the Edinburgh Evening News for its cover with an indistinguishable silhouette and a caption asking: “Have you seen this man?” following the police’s refusal to publish the picture of a killer on the run.
The Sunday Mail was the winner of both the campaign and scoop categories .
