The Guardian has won the Plain English Campaign national newspaper of the year award for the second year running.
The judges said: “The pages are well designed and laid out, with good use of colour. On the whole, the language used is clear and accessible.”
Best regional newspaper is the Newcastle Evening Chronicle.
The judges said it: “has a wide range of well-written local news stories, good entertainment and sport coverage, and clear regional ‘what's on' listings. The tabloid format has an uncluttered layout, with striking headings and photography that draw the reader's attention.”
Best Regional TV programme is X-Ray, a consumer rights show on BBC Wales.
Best national TV programme is This Week, on BBC1, with Andrew Neil, Michael Portillo and Diane Abbott; best national radio programme has gone to The Jeremy Vine Show and best regional radio station is Pirate FM in Cornwall.
The awards are due to be handed out by newsreader Mary Nightingale at the Brewery, London, tomorrow (Tuesday).
