Guardian launches ‘print-and-read’ PDF edition

By Press Gazette

The Guardian this afternoon launched G24, an A4-sized version of the newspaper designed for commuters to download and print.

The 8- to 12-page PDF document is updated from every 15 minutes using material from the newspapers' web site.

In addition to one edition focusing on top stories, users can chose versions of the service focusing on business, media, sport or world news.

Announcing plans for the service last month, Guardian editor Alan Rusbridger said: " Increasingly, readers are demanding editorial content tailored to the time and place of their choosing, rather than to artificial deadlines dictated by old print production schedules."

The Guardian's print-and-read PDF, which is sponsored by BT, is similar to 24 Horas, a continuously -updated product launched by the Spanish daily El Pais in May.

The Financial Times also offers a two-page A4-sized downloadable afternoon edition known as FTpm.
