Andrew Brown, the editor of the Channel 4 political analysis programme Powerhouse and brother of Chancellor Gordon Brown, is leaving ITN to join giant PR firm Weber Shandwick.
Brown has succumbed to the company’s ongoing raid of news organisations for senior journalists that has seen them recruit former Sunday Times political editor Michael Prescott and former BBC business correspondent Peter Morgan.
Brown joins Weber Shandwick as a director of its strategic media group – headed up by vice-chairman Prescott and Morgan – with a brief to focus on developing the company’s media training business.
Over the past seven years, Brown was editor of Powerhouse, the thrice-weekly afternoon programme that looked behind the scenes at Westminster.
The show was scrapped in the run-up to the war in Iraq in March and replaced by an additional half-hour ITN news bulletin.
Brown was previously chief sub-editor and output editor of Channel 4 News. He was an economics and business producer for the bulletin and was also a researcher at the House of Commons.
