Game title launches with two covers

By Press Gazette

Future Publishing is launching Mobile Gamer, a news-stand magazine for mobile phone gaming enthusiasts, writes Mary Stevens.

Keith Stuart, previously features editor on Edge, is editor and editor-in-chief is Matt Bielby, contributor to the creation of Official PlayStation 2 Magazine, PC Gamer, SFX and Total Film.

Stuart, who has been working on the launch for eight weeks, said that mobile gaming was a growing market: “There’s an increase in the number of people buying Java phones, which allow colourful games to run, and the games are getting more complicated. About 15 to 20 per cent of phones sold now are Java compatible.”

The magazine will carry game previews and reviews, new phone reviews and opinion pieces on the direction of mobile phone gaming.

Bielby said: “Mobile Gamer provides both an understandable explanation of an exciting new technology and a fun read about an upcoming entertainment medium. It’s a magazine that really bubbles with enthusiasm.”

The 100-page magazine is on sale from 12 June with two different coloured front covers. It also carries a code so that readers can access four mobile phone game demos: KeepAhead, Anti Virus, Hell’s Pit and Demon’s Treasure.
