Future snaps up two games titles

By Press Gazette

Future has acquired games magazine publisher Computec Media UK from its German parent company for £3.2m.

The deal comprises unofficial PlayStation title PSW, which launched in 2000, and unofficial Xbox title, Xbox World, which launched in February.

Publishing director Dom Beaven said there would be no editorial redundancies among the 16 editorial staff, who will transfer from Harrow to Future’s office in central London when the acquisition is completed next month.

Beaven said there was no overlap with Future’s portfolio and stressed there were no plans to close or reposition the newly acquired magazines.

“We are expanding our London portfolio. The key difference with these titles is the people who write them and the way in which they are written,” he said.

The acquisition fits in with Future’s strategy of strengthening core growth areas – guitars in September for the US and games in October for the UK.

Future predicted PSW and Xbox World would be profitable next year and the move would create a post-tax return on investment in 2004.
