Four months after leaving Breakfast with Frost, Sir David Frost has
confirmed he is joining new 24-hour English-language news and current
affairs channel Al Jazeera International.
When the channel
launches in spring 2006, Frost will present a weekly interview-led
current affairs show. He will also continue with his BBC work, the
upcoming Frost Interview specials as well as Through the Keyhole.
“To have an audience with the rest of the world on a new network is a one-ina- million opportunity.
“The channel will be more up to date and more challenging than anything at the moment.
“I love what I do for Britain and America, but this is also aimed at the other six billion people in the world,” he said.
Al
Jazeera International, headquartered in Qatar, will have broadcasting
centres in Doha, Kuala Lumpur, Washington and London, where Sir David
will be based. The channel claims it will bring English speakers across
the world a fresh perspective on world news and current affairs.
The channel’s managing director, Nigel Parsons, said: “We are thrilled to have Sir David Frost join Al Jazeera International.”
“He’s
a one-man international broadcasting phenomenon, and our viewers can
look forward to the substance and quality that have marked his
distinguished career.”
Other journalists who have joined the new
channel include former ITN News at Ten editor John Pullman and former
ITV foreign editor Al Anstey and his deputy Nick Walshe, as well as
ex-Tribune editor Mark Seddon.
