Weekly
paid-for Archant London paper the Camden Chronicle has been replaced by
a free paper, the Camden Gazette, writes Sarah Lagan.
The move is
part of the publisher’s strategy to combat the fall in some paidfor
circulations by distributing papers as a mix of part paid-for, part
self-select and part free distribution. However, the Gazette no longer
has the paid-for option.
The Camden Gazette, which previously
sold 1,000 copies a week as the Chronicle, is distributed to 25,000
homes in the NW1 and NW5 areas of London. A further 5,000 copies are
available from dispensers, underground stations and other areas in the
city.
Managing director for the London division, Enzo Testa, said: “We decided this was the best way to get the paper into readers’
hands.”
