The principles of The Guardian newspaper’s founding fathers have been used as the basis for a huge mural now standing in the reception area of the newspaper’s Farringdon Road headquarters.
Artist Alan Kitching was commissioned to produce the work, which is based on the original prospectus for the launch of the Manchester Guardian in 1821. It includes phrases such as “The foreign intelligence of the week will be regularly and succinctly detailed whilst particular attention will be paid to parliamentary debates”.
The mural measures 7m x 3.3m and cost less than £10,000 to produce.
Guardian editor Alan Rusbridger said: “The mural makes a real impact as you enter The Guardian building, displaying the ethos and history of the newspaper in a very contemporary manner.”
