Former Europe manager at BBC World Service, Charles Fletcher, has been appointed deputy to the general director at Slovak Television.
His brief is to restructure the news and current affairs department and lead the relaunch into virtual production on 1 January.
Fletcher’s previous responsibilities as Europe manager at the BBC included creating and delivering training and development courses and workshops across Central and Eastern Europe, which included Slovakia, where World Service delivered a series of journalism workshops at Slovak TV.

Before that, he was Sky News Scotland correspondent.
Fletcher said of his new role: “I’m very excited about the appointment. It is a brave and courageous move by the general director to appoint a foreigner to head the most sensitive part of the public service output. The appointment is a recognition of experience, but also crucially important is the view that by being an ‘outsider’, the GD recognises that I carry no political baggage or business interests in Slovakia.
“It is crucial now to tighten up the content and the context of our stories from choice to delivery.”
Slovak TV relaunches on New Year’s Day – the first programme will be the evening news at 7pm.
