Five journalists are among 18 staff at Teletext who have lost their jobs in a cost-cutting exercise.
Teletext, which is part of the DMGT Group and publishes text services for ITV, Channel 4 and Five, is losing the staff from its features, sports, subbing, design and commercial departments.
Staff at the operation, which also provides digital teletext services for Sky, Freeview and others, were told last week of the redundancies.
The company employs 430 people and had avoided making cuts in the past few years when many other media operations were shedding staff.
The cuts are being blamed on the economic downturn. One of the company’s biggest revenue earners is holiday advertising, which is one of the areas most worst hit.
A spokesman for the company said the cuts would be mostly compulsory redundancies, adding: “It has been a difficult year for the advertising sector and we are not immune to that.”
