Ferguson takes up West Sound slot

By Press Gazette

Former Daily Record assistant editor Iain Ferguson has set up his own news and PR business in Ayr and is anchoring a new four-hour West Sound radio programme on Saturday afternoons.

The sports programme covers the south-west of Scotland and is a local version of parent company Radio Clyde’s Superscoreboard. West Sound managing director Sheena Borthwick said she had chosen Ferguson as presenter because he was a local man “with a well-documented press and radio pedigree”.

Ferguson edited several local weekly newspapers in Ayrshire in the Eighties, including the Ayr Advertiser and Ardrossan & Saltcoats Herald, before joining the Daily Record as a senior reporter in 1989.

He was made deputy chief reporter in 1995 before moving to the Sunday Mail as news editor in 1999. In 2000, he became assistant editor of the Sunday Mail before returning to the Record as assistant editor later that year.

He was made redundant last November.
