Falkland’s special delivery

By Press Gazette

by Sarah Lagan

The Dumfriesshire Newspaper Group’s circulation is stretching out an extra 8,000 miles to the Falkland Islands this Christmas.

Copies
of the group’s Annan-based titles, the Annandale Observer, Annandale
Herald, Dumfries Courier and Moffat News have been airlifted to the
newspapers’ local regiment, the King’s Own Scottish Borderers which is
providing the garrison at the UK’s remote South Atlantic outpost. The
papers include a page of special festive messages from readers as well
as friends and family of the soldiers. A further consignment was sent
over to the regiment’s Northern Ireland base in Omagh.

Editor
Bryan Armstrong said: “The positive response from readers demonstrated
the strong bond between our area and the KOSB “There was added
significance as this will almost certainly be their last Christmas as
an individual regiment – they are due to merge with the Royal Scots and
become a battalion of the new Royal Regiment of Scotland in the summer”.
