A former printer whose ambition was to move into editorial has been named editor at the Kirkintilloch Herald Series.
Jim Holland, who was previously assistant editor at the weekly
Kirkintilloch Herald, has clocked up 33 years of unbroken service for
Johnston Press, where he started as a compositor working in hot-metal
production.
He had always wanted to become a journalist, so in 1990 Johnston arranged for him to attend Napier University to train.
His
first reporting job was with the Kirkintilloch Herald where he has been
reporter, chief reporter and assistant editor. He was also given
editorial responsibility of the Glasgow East News when Johnston bought
the paper in 2001.
Holland said: “I am delighted to get this
opportunity. The Kirkintilloch Herald has a strong tradition in the
area as a campaigning paper and people look to us to have their say.”
Holland
replaces Christine McPherson, who left in the summer after 28 years, 18
of which she was editor, to work on other journalismrelated projects.
During
McPherson’s time at the helm she introduced four editions and launched
a free title, The Advertiser, which covered the north of Glasgow.
She then took over the Glasgow East News, which distributes across the east of the city.
