Forty years after its closure, the Evening Chronicle, Manchester, has reappeared. It is a one-off version published to coincide with a reunion of journalists who worked on the city’s second evening newspaper.
The survivors are meeting on the 26 July, the 40th anniversary of the closure, at Printworks, an entertainment centre on the Withy Grove site, once Europe’s largest newspaper plant.
The reunion souvenir, edited by Max Hodnett, former deputy chief sub at the Chronicle and later editor of the West Briton, has been sponsored by Guardian Media Group and Johnston Press.
It recalls the final hours and brings former colleagues up to date with a “Whatever happened to?” listing feature. Andy Harvie, editor at the closure, is among contributors.
