Electronics Weekly has shrunk to an American tabloid size as part of a complete overhaul.
The title has been given a clearer format, stronger masthead and increased the sign posting of its technology content. There will also be two or three extra news pages, more analysis and indepth coverage of the industry, with extra space allocated to new technology and product development.
Editor Richard Wilson said the new size would bring the title in line with a number of Reed Business Information’s other titles, such as Computer Weekly and MicroScope, which have also downsized.
“It also brings us in line with the US publications in the group. Reed is making more of its global publications and a number of US magazines have that style and format,” he told Press Gazette.
The front page will continue to carry news and the title will have a more serious approach overall, he said. The editorial content will be given a further boost with increased freelance contributions from experts in the industry as well as journalists from other Reed titles. “There will be more industry comment – we want to become the mouthpiece of the industry,” Wilson said.
“With the demise of Electronic Times in 2000, we are now building on our role as number one,” he added.
