Editor quits after independence row

By Press Gazette

Nine months after his appointment, Irish Catholic editor Simon Rowe has resigned.

He cited disagreements between himself and the board of the religious weekly, the premier Catholic newspaper in the Republic, as the reason for his departure.

Issues of editorial independence and policy came to a head over an investigative feature written by Rowe over the Catholic church’s disposal of a prime location in Dublin two years ago. The price was only a fraction of its eventual value as land prices soared.

Rowe is to take up the post of editor of a new Irish business magazine.
