Editor-in-chief Lesley Finlay leaves Kent Regional News

By Press Gazette

Publishing director and editor-in-chief at Kent Regional News and Media, Lesley Finlay, has left the company.

Scunthorpe Telegraph editor Jane Manning has been appointed editor-in-chief in Finlay’s place. The Telegraph’s deputy editor Dave Atkin is acting editor at the paper.

There will be no replacement for Finlay in her position as publishing director, and commercial director Steve Lowe will be responsible for the company’s commercial development.

The move follows the sale of the company by Trinity Mirror to Northcliffe last year.

In an email to staff, managing director Richard Karn said: ‘As you are aware, the last 12 months have been a time of significant change at Kent Regional News and Media.

‘The challenges faced include the uncertainty of the sale, the adjustment to Northcliffe’s ownership, and migration to new and unfamiliar systems. With the exception of the speed of the network links to our branch offices, this is now behind us and our attention is turning to our portfolio of products.”

He added: ‘For my own part I want to place on record my sincere thanks to Lesley for her significant contribution through what has been an incredibly challenging period.”

Finlay was promoted to editor-in-chief in 2002, and to publishing director in 2006.

Manning recently led the Scunthorpe Telegraph through a redesign and switched it from an evening publication to a morning.
