The Eastern Daily Press paid newsagents 4p per copy compensation after production problems meant the paper was printed up to four hours late.
The unprecedented move was accompanied by an apology in the paper from editor Peter Franzen. In it he said: “Production difficulties at our Archant Print centre at Thorpe have resulted in late delivery of the Eastern Daily Press on three occasions this week.
“I would like to apologise to roundsmen, newsagents, readers and advertisers for late delivery of the EDP which has caused considerable difficulties for our suppliers.” The compensation was singled out for praise in the leader column of trade magazine Retail Newsagent“`.
It said: “The actions of Archant Norfolk in compensating newsagents for the late delivery of the Eastern Daily Press on Monday is a classic example of the forward-thinking approach some regional publishers take to their retail partners.”
